History

The Eildon Fire Brigade was formed when the Big Eildon Dam project was commenced in the early 50’s.

With the development of the township of Eildon as a construction settlement came the need for a town fire brigade. The department responsible for the construction management was the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission under the chairmanship of Sir Ronald East and the department provided the first Captain in Fred Smith. Fred had the CFA work as part of his duty statement.
The first station was built by the contractors Utah Ltd of the USA and its original location was next to the hospital, now known as the Darlingford Upper Goulburn Nursing Home. The current station was relocated to its present location at the completion of the project and still stands as a reminder of the Utah prefabricated buildings and houses as brought to Australia from the United Kingdom.
